The
places now that will entertain your touring in the region are Rohtang pass
at 52kms, the Hidimba temple within 1km of Manali, Vashisth hot water spring
and temple at 3kms, Solang valley at a distance of 13kms, Rahala waterfalls at
13kms, the Old Manali which is at 3kms, Nehru Kund at a distance of 6kms and a
few monasteries. These places lie within Manali.
The
adjacent places of Manali available for your visit are the hill station of
Kullu at a distance of 40km, the Mandi District at 102kms and the state
capital Shimla which is located at a detachment of 248kms from here
etc.
The
average temperature here ranges between a maximum of 28 and a minimum of 12
degrees during the summer and max of 14 to a min of -4 degrees during the snowy
seasons. Hence make sure you carry you clothing accordingly. The best months for
you to visit would be from April to October when the days will perfectly match
the nature. The nearest airport though is at a distance of 52kms at Bhuntar and
the railway lines reach nearest up to just Chandigarh 315kms away after that bus
or taxi service is available for you.
The
region is filled with the tranquil waters of some of the picturesque lakes.
About 6kms away from the town of Gulaba, to the east of Kullu, is the
Dashir Lake and the Bhrigu Lake. This water mass bears a panorama
of mountains in its scene and the water of the lake is believed to have healing
qualities for the body ailments and skin diseases. Below the summit of the
Barachala pass lays the Suraj Tal Lake.
The
Manali wildlife sanctuary starts at a distance of 2kms from the main
town. Sprawling through the Deodar, Kail, Horse chestnut, Walnut and Maple tree
zones the Manali wildlife Sanctuary hides in itself the various species of wild
as the Musk Deer, The Snow Leopard, The Monal, Brown Bear etc.
The
himachal people celebrate the local festivals in a very traditional way that
include the Dussehra, Hidimba Devi fair, Doongri Forest Festival, the Tibetan
new year of Lossar and the Nalwari Fair etc. along with the few popular north
Indian festivals.
